Mushroom Bird House

Posted by tb4

Absolutely wonderful ceramic bird houses from Denver based artist Michael McDowell. Each one of these pieces is available from his etsy shop for $45.

Each gorgeous bird house is hand crafted and covered inside and out with Michael's non toxic glossy white glaze and topped with an exquisite white lichen glaze. It is fired twice, once as a bisque firing to drive out moisture from the clay and a second high fire glaze firing which ensures the birdhouse can withstand the elements. Just in time for your feathered friends this spring and summer, they make a great housewarming gift or a treat for yourself. A ceramic bead and hemp hanger are included for quick hanging.

Measures approx. 3 3/4" tall... 4" across cap. Get it here.

Check out Michael's portfolio at michaelmcdowell.com.

Tota Coffee Carrier

Posted by tb4

How awesome are these Tota coffee carriers, available in white styrene(above) or lovely felt(below). You can get them for $12 or $32 respectively.

Carrying more than one cup can be difficult and trays are unstable when walking and only designed to be used a few times. The tota lets you carry up to 8 cups (2 units in each hand) safely with room for stirrers or sugar sachets. The comfy handle is a nice touch and the tota can hold large or small cups. Obviously its built to last, great for those daily office runs to your favourite local cafe!

Poster Inspiration: F. Oscarsson

Posted by tb4

So I only posted two of Australian based designer Fredrik Oscarsson's posters because there were just to many good posters I couldn't decide which ones to put up. Check out the portfolio links below, he has so much good work it would be a shame to pass up those links. I just really enjoyed the way he described himself and his work, check it out below.

The graphic work of Fredrik Oscarsson.
My humble aim is to dominate the 4 corners of the world, exceed the 7 wonders of the world and to be the no. 1 graphic artist of the world. This will be done with a visual mark that can be seen as a Flawless Formula in any project.

My strategy in this holy quest for world domination are mad skills in all techniques required by a graphic artist. The results of my ambitious undertaking is powerful artwork and graphic design, intelligent illustrations and clear, concise layout.

With 2 bachelors in design (industrial design, Visby and communication design, Sydney) under my belt and industry experinece since mid 2007 I'm now willing to call myself a visual communicator and designer. Feel free to explore the site.

The Tallest Man on Earth at the Turf Club in St. Paul, MN
Info: 3-color screenprint on two different 80# French cover stocks • 8.5" x 19" • Signed & numbered editions of 33 on brown, 18 on butcher blue
Illustration/Design: Dan Black

Here is a short list of information about LANDLAND:

• LANDLAND kinda used to be called the "2222 Screenprint Facility," but we moved into a new place, so we thought it made sense to call it something else. That, and we got tired of explaining the whole "2222" awkward naming thing all over the place, not that "LANDLAND" is working out any better.

• Some other names associated with LANDLAND are: Dan Black, Jessica Seamans and Matt Zaun.

• We are a small collective of graphic designers, illustrators, screenprinters, relatively decent advice-givers, semi-amateur sink and wall constructors, art makers, big talkers, ex-9-to-fivers, listmakers and clean fighters, among many other things too innumerable to mention here.

• We make all sorts of things all the time, including posters (for rock shows and for lots of other stuff), records and record sleeves (cds too), mailers and advertisements, t-shirts, promotional items for ourselves and for other people, and a bunch of other things.

• We make these things with computers and scanners and photocopiers and drawings and fun printing techniques and whatever we need to use to get the job done.

Grass

Posted by tb4

"Grass" designed at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, Israel, in 2009. Designed to bring more nature indoors.

The squares of grass were originally inspired by Frank Loyd Wright’s Fallingwater and how Wright continually strove to connect architecture and nature. All of the packaging for the squares is made completely from recycled materials. Openings on the corners of the package let the grass breathe and help give it a longer shelf life.

All of this is via Inhabitat, they didn't include the link to the designer in their post. So if anyone has a link to the designer throw it in the comments so I can get a link up here.

Trousers

Posted by tb4

I am loving this trousers print from etsy seller GollyBard, you can get it at her shop for $15. That is pretty stinking cheap for a great print. Check out the complimenting print Skirt below. Now a bit about the print from Golly Bard.

"I often create his and hers images. Trousers is one such image and a great companion to Skirt. They are suspended, up in the air, in a state of limbo.

This is a digital print of an etching. It is printed on archival, felt finish paper stock, which measures 8 1/2 x 11 inches and truly captures the essence of the original copperplate etching. Each print is titled and signed. The image measures 8 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches.

Packaged with care in a clear sleeve with backing board. Shipped via USPS in a cardboard box/mailer."

Art. Lebedev Studios are back at the product design game again. I love the "Gridus barbecue grid," it's just awesome. But I have one question is a hot dog grilled on A1 through A23, really that much better than one grilled D1 through D23, I think it is and if you ever try to steal my A1 through A23 hot dog there will be a fight.

Melissa Haslam

Posted by tb4

Paper Tiger has just released their first print from Melissa Haslam.

Australian artist, Melissa Haslam, took time out of her busy show schedule to hook them up with a beautiful print. Drawing influence from vintage illustration, botanical art, Victorian painting, and contemporary fashion photography, you really can't go wrong with Melissa's art.

...and now you can purchase this limited edition 12" x 15.5" print exclusively on Paper Tiger!

About Melissa Haslam:
By painting exotic yet strangely familiar environments, Australian artist Melissa Haslam offers an escape to a romanticized, whimsical and yet slightly dark interpretation of the world. With an emphasis on narrative theme, her paintings are populated by beautiful, forlorn and mischievous women in fairytale-like scenarios.

When asked about this painting, Melissa had this to say: "Apparition is a narrative piece exploring a fictional relationship between nature and a manufactured toy. The ghost-like girl brings the floral toy into a natural environment, causing the plants pollination process to break down when the bees become attracted to the toys floral fabric."

So I have made it to day 2 of the poster inspiration series, I'm awesome with my extreme sticktoitivness, yeah I don't think sticktoitivness is actually a word but I like it.

Enough of that tangent, here goes with the actual post. The poster inspiration of today comes exclusively from one graphic artist. Paul Tebbott is a Manchester based, go ManU in the champions league final, graphic designer and electronic musician. I absolutely love the retro nature of his work.

Check out his flickr stream for all his latest work while he is updating his portfolio.

KRANG

Posted by tb4

Bryan from paperfoldables.com has a brand new, well paper foldable for download. It is the oh so glorious Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or TMNT for the cool kids. You know what the best part about this is, it's free and it is awesome. So you know what go and download this from paperfoldables.com, and then make it. Also check out Bryan's blog for a few more photos of Krang.

Here is what Bryan has to say about Krang:

"I am a HUGE fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I have all the ol' skool toons on DVD and other stuff I'm probably too old for, but whatevs. I love it. I've been wanting to make a KRANG foldable for some time now, so finally sat down for 3 straight days to make him! What better time to make it, this year being the 25th anniversary of TMNT! This complete Paper Foldable comes in several parts. I designed it so the top half and bottom half of the android body can come apart. I was watching an episode of Turtles and they showed Foot soldiers putting the body together like this. Then of course you got cute li'l Krang who fits snuggly into the belly of the android body."

Poster Inspiration: 5/11/09

So I'm starting up a new daily, well hopefully daily unless I get to lazy to do it everyday, post project. This one is going to be poster inspiration. I see a ton of posters out there on the internet that I really love, but then I either forget to post about them, or they get lost in the giant set of favorites that I have. So I am going to start putting them up her at why me design.

So here goes above is the first, of hopefully many, poster inspiration posts. It was done by designer Justin Erickson for "A Night Of Terror" featuring the bands Ash Lee Blade, Borealis and Dj Gory Lori.

Dry Erase Wall Clok

Posted by tb4

This wall clock is so much fun, the dry erase wall clock from designer Ricardo Saint-Clair. Although normally wall clock are placed kind of high on the wall, which would make it kind of hard to actually write on it. But whatever it is an awesome clock, you can get it from the MoMA store for $135. And I'm sure they have a super cute and modern step stool available so that you can reach your brand new wall clock.

"Designer Ricardo Saint-Clair seeks to foster communication with his interactive designs. This clever wall clock features a face made from a dry erase board, creating the ideal space to note appointments, jot notes, or leave messages for others. Comes with one dry erase marker with eraser, which discretely hides in the side of the clock. Made of sturdy plywood and laminate. Requires one AA battery (not included). Simple assembly required."
