Canterbury Changing Table

Posted by tb4

This really is one beautiful changing table, but oh my god look at that price tag. A changing table for almost $1500, not to be horribly gross but come on why would you spend $1500 on something that gets pee'd and pooped on. Check the details about it below.

The Nurseryworks Canterbury Changing Table by Lawson-Fenning features a traditional look with a modern twist. The Canterbury Changing Table meets all U.S. government safety standards and is well constructed with optimal materials.

Features:

  • Three long drawers for spacious storage
  • Removable tray that fits a standard changing pad
  • Designer, Lawson-Fenning

Christine

This beautiful piece of furniture is "Christine" designed and built by Montreal based craftsman Alain Bélanger. Alain is a creative and passionate individual and more than anything he loves bringing his visions to life. He is a self-taught artist and craftsman, and a quite good one indeed. In 1999, Alain moved from engineering into designing and building contemporary limited-edition furniture.

Check out the top drawer, I'm not quite sure what you would keep in that drawer, but it is just spectacular. I want one of these, but I'm sure it is quite far out of my price range, most things I want are. Check out the rest of Alain's work at his site, linked below.

Tree Stacking Cabinet

Posted by tb4

"Tree Stacking Cabinet is made of white ash and features 3 cabinets, with two drawers each, stacked on top of each other. Use them together, or use them separately. This is certainly a piece of furniture that will work in more than one room. The Tree Stacking Cabinet is 81,900.00 Yen/$884." Such a spectacular cabinet design, I guess your only limited by how tall your ceilings are for how high you can stack these guys.

Great shelf design by Amsterdam based product designer Martin Sämmer. The transformer-shelf has the ability to continuously change and evolve to meet your storage and shelving needs. It starts as a solid block and you can change it to a number of different shapes and styles just by pushing and pulling on the many different pieces. An excellent design to be sure.

The design of this object allows to participate in the evolution of its shape. By using the Transformer-Shelf you will constantly rearrange the different units towards each other, creating myriad different shapes. This will have an influence on your impression of the object, the cognition of the surrounding room and the way you identify yourself with the Object. Everybody can put his own ideas into the Object. In the end, the design becomes a process that will be partly submitted to the CONSUMER, who will also partly become a shape-producer, and therefore a ‘Design-Prosumer’.

Lovely chair design from French industrial designer Vincent Bobineau. The chair has great lines and just an all around great look to it. I love that the chair actually reclines also, so after a hard day at work you can recline back with a nice glass of wine and enjoy your evening.

Jiella

Posted by tb4

Jiella 0-series, designed by finish designer Samuli Naamanka for Habitek, is a suspended wooden chair utilizing spherical geometry. The structure consists of strips cut from a form pressed plywood sheet. The inner veneer layers are birch, while the surface is ash, walnut, oak or beech. The form pressed parts are pulled together at the ends of the strips by means of steel shafts from which the chair can be suspended. Jiella is an awesome design simple and beautiful, it would work great in both indoor and outdoor settings, my front porch would look so good with a couple of these hanging on it.

The airy geometry is based on easy assembly and packing: the curved wooden elements can be interlapped to make a flat package. Jiella is delivered to the client in a package including the wooden parts, a leather cushion, hanging equipment and simple assembly instructions.

Interior designer Samuli Naamanka (born 1969) is known as a versatile designer whose work combines carefully considered vocabulary of form with creative technical innovation. As well as product design and interior design, Naamanka specialises in environmental design. Amongst other things, he has carried out groundbreaking work in the development of concrete products. The results of this have given rise, for example, to patent inventions for a graphic concrete patterning technology and for colouring concrete in several different colours.

Awsome "stair-case" from designer Danny kuo. This sort of book case would be very handy and look fantastic in an area with high vaulted ceilings. Then you could run a book case from ceiling to floor and actually be able to get to the top without the use of a ladder. I just think this is a very well designed and well thought out project that solves the problem of not being able to easily see what is on the top of your book case. A little about the project then check the link to Danny kuo's portfolio below that.

"The initial keywords: space, storage, future. In the future space becomes more desireable, because the big appartment buildings are taking over the normal 1, 2 or 3 level houses. It's more efficient because you will need less square meters to house people. therefore the focus for the future is on height and not in width. But current storage furniture is designed for average humans with a length of approx. 1.8 meters so everything is reachable. So to be efficient also our furniture needs to grow in height in stead of width. This StairCASE is the result of these facts."

Pretty nice concept chair from Bulgarian designer Velichko Velikov. I love the multiple colors, I could definitely see these working very well in an outdoor restaurant setting.

Alpha Coffee Table

Posted by tb4

Great new coffee table from Crate & Barrel, but man spending $900 on a coffee table seems a bit excessive.

"This one-of-a-kind conversation table was inspired by a Paris flea market find, then designed exclusively for us by a London graphic designer with a penchant for, and a large personal collection of, antique printers' blocks. Iconic top is carved from one single piece of wood with raised letters and numbers painted in 10 different colors. Vintage crackled finish varies slightly from table to table and adds to the "as found" charm. Top is protected with tempered glass and framed modern in a soft black powdercoated steel base."

Pick Chair

Great design and a spectacular idea, but at over $1600 a piece they are pretty much price prohibitive to anyone but the really rich. Check out all the chairs over at Studio Dror.

Studio Dror is an extension of Dror Benshetrit's work. Being a multidisciplinary design company, founded in 2002, Studio Dror specializes in product design, architecture and art direction. Dror's client list includes Levi's, Bombay Sapphire and Swarovski, among others.

With several years of combined art and design education from the Design Academy (Eindhoven, Holland) and the Center for Art Education at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (Israel), Dror developed a unique style of design that is evident in each project Dror adopts. To become familiar with Dror’s work is to understand the logic and thought process behind his style. He thrives on the origin of movement, while focusing on innovation with new uses of materials, technology and shapes. Dror’s creations reflect a certain way of living and well-being and offer design inspiration.

cosma bed

Posted by tb4

I'm not sure I would pay $5,000 for this sofa, but it is very well designed. Both a nice sofa with clean lines that wont overpower a room, and a bed. When you fold this out into a bed it has to be a whole lot more comfortable than those pull out sofa bed that I slept on oh so many times in college. I hated that stupid metal bar that ran right through the middle of every one of those beds.

Caterpillar

Fun product design by Anna Bullus, the caterpillar. An exceptionally versatile piece of furniture that can be placed into at least 14 different positions, and is inspired by a bike chain. Very nicely done and it would definitely be a bit of a conversation starter at parties, or just a comfy place to lay down and read a book.

Scoop! couch

Posted by tb4

I'm not really sure how feasible this is as an everyday bed, except for all of those out there with one room apartments. But as a second bed for company I think it is a spectacular idea. There is also a scoop! square that I think would make for a much better every once in a while bed.

dorm life anyone

Posted by tb4

So does this remind anyone else of living in a college dorm room, because it sure as hell reminds me of it. I guess it would be nice to have though, if some of your crazy in-laws showed up unexpectedly, or if a few of your friends had to crash after a night out and about.

So this is what happens when you try to use clear acrylic to make a tablecloth. So you get a crazy table that looks like it should fold up and go in the cabinet for the next time grandma comes over and you have to get out the good china and silverware. I'm not sure how durable it would be, I mean seriously I wouldn't try any exceptionally fun stuff on it, really how do you explain that at the hospital after you break it. Doctor: How did you get all these shards in your ass and back? You: Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......I fell.

Who needs a new chair

This is one of the coolest things designers do, they put together a fantastic design and then they actually put out the directions on how to build one for yourself. The designers at designnobis have pretty much made my day, their site may be partly in a different language, but fear not the directions to the chair are easy and in English. It looks like all you will have to do to put his together is size up the directions, so you can print out proper size templates to cut the wood from, they don't give any idea how much you need to size them up though so good luck with that. Get your wood, get some rope, and have fun making a new chair.
