Fleas

Posted by tb4

Sorry for the lack of posts yesterday, my day was far to busy and not with stuff I like to do. My little buddy Oscar, pictured below, had fleas. So that absolutely sucked I had to give him a flea bath and then we had to flea bomb the entire house to make sure they don't come back, hopefully that worked. The only issue now is that he spent so much time chewing on his back foot he can barely put any weight on it, it must be a bit tender, he just hops along on three legs, it is so sad. He goes to the vet tomorrow so hopefully she will be able to help him out.

On a better not I did get to go see Counting Crows last night, they were awesome. They closed with "hanging around" and "rain king" with the help of the opening band Augustana. I was pleasantly surprised with the opener Augustana, those guys sure can sing, and when they helped close the show it was a very nice surprise, it was one of the better renditions of "hanging around" I have ever heard.

Really nice porcelain jewelry from designer Dror Benshetrit, and Studio Dror. This is from the same studio that designed the Pick Chair.

One of a kind hand crafted porcelain jewelry pieces and sculptures resulting of successive experimentation on the properties of ceramics. The forms originate by dipping second-hand fur into porcelain giving the fur a continuous life and new appearance.

Jin Woo Han

Posted by tb4

Very clever design from South Korean industrial designer Jin Woo Han. It is an all in one computer and projector, that allows people to easily enjoy movies wherever they want. The body of the PC has two surround sound speakers on the sides. A nice idea and definitely something that could be useful to the standard consumer, and would definitely be very useful in the business world, especially the traveling salesman who has to give presentations. The only thing that would worry me is the weight, I'm sure this thing would be very light, but I guess you take the good with the bad.

Felted Wool Stones

Posted by tb4

These felted wool stones from textile designer Ronel Jordaan are pretty fun, and will let you bring a little nature indoors without having to deal with all that dirt that comes with bringing real nature indoors. I know I know you could wash the stones you bring in from outside and not have to worry about all the dirt, but seriously those stones would be so heavy and not very comforatable to lay on. These remind me of the Livingstones from designer Stephanie Marin.

"Renowned South African textile designer Ronel Jordaan takes her inspiration from nature, and uses felt to give free rein to her imagination. Socially conscious as well as gifted, Jordaan has set up a women's workshop in Gauteng- Johannesburg-where her personally trained artisans transform interlocking fibers, made from 100% merino wool, into these freeform oversized "stone" floor cushions. Though they may fool the eye, they provide immediately recognizable comfort to weary torsos in search of a relaxing seat. Soft yet buoyant, the veined, smooth textured cushions can be arranged to support seat and back. Children love them. Parents love them. Guests love them, too. Hand washable in cold water."

Chalkboard Panel Doors

Posted by tb4

Absolutely fantastic idea from Simpson doors, they are magnetic chalkboard doors. Write on them, stick magnets to them, let your kids have fun writing on your door. These would be especially nice for people who don't have a ton of room to work with and need to utilize every inch of their living space.

"Simpson chalkboard panel doors are prefect for families on the go, whether used in the kitchen, pantry or a kid's room. Children can post artwork from school or create original works of art directly on the door itself. And mom and dad will like it as a place to post grocery and to-do lists or simply as a place to write reminders for other members of the family.

Available in three standard designs and five standard wood species, there is an option to match most any existing home interior."

"The Human Race 10K Presents Hilltop Hoods. Run the Nike+ Human Race 10K, the

"The Human Race 10K Presents Faker. Run the Nike+ Human Race 10K, the world's largest running event, and watch Faker perform live at the exclusive post race concert."

Great new ads for Nike and their 10K Human Race from the advertising agency Publicis Mojo out of Melbourne, Australia and creative director Leon Wilson. The illustrations are just fantastic and fit so well for these pieces. The one thing I am surprised about, is that in the hilltop hoods poster the shoes don't have the Nike swoosh on them, I'm surprised Nike let that go.

Alpha Coffee Table

Posted by tb4

Great new coffee table from Crate & Barrel, but man spending $900 on a coffee table seems a bit excessive.

"This one-of-a-kind conversation table was inspired by a Paris flea market find, then designed exclusively for us by a London graphic designer with a penchant for, and a large personal collection of, antique printers' blocks. Iconic top is carved from one single piece of wood with raised letters and numbers painted in 10 different colors. Vintage crackled finish varies slightly from table to table and adds to the "as found" charm. Top is protected with tempered glass and framed modern in a soft black powdercoated steel base."

Hourglass Shaped Desk Clock

Found this fun and unique clock the other day, I really don't know if I have ever seen a clock like this before. Get it over at fitzsu for $39.

"This Hourglass Shaped Desktop Clock By Kirkkerland is a unique gift for a modern office. This would be a great modern desktop accessory for any occassion. This modern battery clock, has a red indicator line which shows the hours (bottom) and minutes (top). The Seconds rotate on top of this contemporary clock."

Kitchen Tape Timer

Posted by tb4

This is most definitly a fresh look at the classic kitchen timer. I should really get this for my mom I think she has had the same wind up kitchen timer since like the 70s, I don't think she ever gets anything new till it breaks. Get it over at the MoMA store for $20.

"Kitchen Tape Timer
Jozeph Forakis, 2004

A fresh take on the classic kitchen timer, simply pull the ring to set the time for up to 60 minutes. As time passes, the tape ticks down. When no tape is left, the timer rings loudly. Made of aluminum casing."

Flexible Measuring Cups

Posted by tb4

I love the MoMA store they always have some of the most fun and innovative stuff. The flexible measuring cups by Ken LeVan are no exception to this. Awesome functional design is very much at work in these, and they are definitly very cost friendly at only $26.

"Flexible Measuring Cups by Ken LeVan, 2008

Made of translucent silicone, these nested measuring cups allow you to form a spout anywhere along the flexible rims for precise pouring. The textured surfaces provide a secure grip, and two clear measurement windows allow you to view the contents. The large size may also be used as a mixing bowl. Microwave- and dishwasher-safe. Set of three. Capacity: one, two, and four cups."

USA Network

Posted by tb4

Very cool way to get the word out about the USA Network show Burn Notice.

"In a recent campaign to create pre-Emmy buzz among the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences judges, USA Network, New York, mailed out 14,000 “FYC” (For Your Consideration) kits, printed in invisible ink.The kits, promoting the network’s hit espionage show, “Burn Notice,” are the first work from TDA ADVERTISING & DESIGN, Boulder, Colorado, for its new client.

Each slip-covered, 3-panel, hardcover kit holds a UV flashlight and the instructions, “Steps: 1. Use this flashlight to reveal hidden text. 2. Deny you ever used this flashlight.”

Across all three panels, no other words or images are visible, except under black light—at which point photographs of the lead actor and supporting actress, a list of six potential “Drama Series” Emmy nominations, and four press blurbs (e.g. “The show floats along on a spy’s handbook. Narration that sounds remarkably convincing.” – L.A. Times) come into view. Also, tucked into a slot are 4 DVDs with this season’s 12 episodes, plus written synopses.

“Burn Notice,” named for the C.I.A. equivalent of a “pink slip,” is a drama about an ex-spy. The one hour show runs Thursdays at 10 EST on USA Network.

Greenpeace

Posted by tb4

"Every signature helps save our seas."

Awesome new ads for Greenpeace from the advertising agency Ogilvy out of Johannesburg, South Africa and art directors Mike Martin and Jen Maestre. This is a great use of Jen Maestre's pencil sculptures, they are crazy good and oh so cool. Although since they are Jen Maestre's artwork I'm not really sure what the other art director did during this whole ad plan and shoot, maybe he was the idea man. Probably went something like this "Hey Jen your art is cool how about we use it in this shoot for Greenpeace." Obviously I'm just kidding, all art directors have a ton of work to do on every shoot, well done both of you on these ads.

Pick Chair

Posted by tb4

Great design and a spectacular idea, but at over $1600 a piece they are pretty much price prohibitive to anyone but the really rich. Check out all the chairs over at Studio Dror.

Studio Dror is an extension of Dror Benshetrit's work. Being a multidisciplinary design company, founded in 2002, Studio Dror specializes in product design, architecture and art direction. Dror's client list includes Levi's, Bombay Sapphire and Swarovski, among others.

With several years of combined art and design education from the Design Academy (Eindhoven, Holland) and the Center for Art Education at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (Israel), Dror developed a unique style of design that is evident in each project Dror adopts. To become familiar with Dror’s work is to understand the logic and thought process behind his style. He thrives on the origin of movement, while focusing on innovation with new uses of materials, technology and shapes. Dror’s creations reflect a certain way of living and well-being and offer design inspiration.

Evgeny Kiselev Package Design

This has got to be some of the best looking chocolate that I have ever seen. The package design was illustrated by Russian artist and designer Evgeny Kiselev. Check out the rest of Evgeny's work at his portfolio, ekiselev.com.

Evgeny Kiselev

Amazingly intricate and colorful illustrative work from Russian artist Evgeny Kiselev. He has his work published in numerous different magazines and even done the cover for computer arts monthly a couple of times.

"The diverse work of Evgeny Kiselev oscillates between the rigors of symmetry and prolific excess. Several compositions begin with vivid tiled patterns that are mirrored again and again until they can no longer be contained and are forced to push beyond the confines of their logic. Others, emerge from a single outline that manifests the controlled lawlessness of the work. Each piece achieves a complexity of color and layer that continues to build infinitely into the space of the page creating a warping spatial depth".

Check out the rest of Evgeny's work over at his portfolio, ekiselev.com.

Oktapodi

Posted by tb4

"Oktapodi" is an animated short about an octopus love affair suddenly ripped apart when one of the octopi, I think that is the singular of octopus, gets ripped out of the tank. You can watch the movie for the rest of the story, it is so worth the time it takes to download the movie. There is some really spectacular animation and a great story to go with it. Also the team who created it have put up a wonderful behind the scenes piece which you can view here. Great work from the Gobelins L'ecole De L'image team.

Andy Gilmore

As of late you can't find a design or art blog without some sort of mention of New York based artist and illustrator Andy Gilmore. He has been a fantastic source of inspiration to me lately, and he has definitely put me on a bit more of a retro and more colorful path in my artwork. He has quite a few sites with a lot of work on all of them so have fun going through them all, I sure did.
