Excellent hand drawn typographical art from London based artist Pomme Chan. A bit about Pomme below and her portfolio links below that, enjoy.
Born and educated in Bangkok, Pomme completed her BA in Interior Design at Silpakorn University before working at the Bangkok offices of both WPP’s DY&R and Grey as a graphic designer. In 2002 she relocated to the UK for a Foundation in Graphic Design and Communication at the London College of Communication.
Pomme’s first forays into professional freelancing led her straight into London’s lifestyle magazine industry as an art director and illustrator. Over the past four years, her drawings have featured in the Telegraph, IDN, Grafik, Curvy Book and FT magazines, and she has worked on prestigious ad campaigns for the likes of Sony, Mercedes-B..enz, Marc Jacobs, Microsoft, The Guardian, Nike and Topshop.
Using her unique felt-tip style, Pomme draws inspiration from nature, fashion, architecture, Music and the female form.
Recently she has also begun exploring freehand typographical illustrations, several of which appeared in La Perla Magazine, Exhibition at New Museum (NY) and Soma Gallery among others.

Another Update on the periodic table of typefaces post I did a few weeks ago. Everything is finally finished, you can get buy a 25.5"x17" print, download the source files, get it as a vinyl wall decal and even download it as a wallpaper. Check out all of the options over at Squidspot.com. The guys over at squidspot did a great job on everything, it all looks fantastic.
Got a little update on the periodic table of typefaces post I did a few weeks ago. The guys from scribbleoneverything.com, have gotten permission to make this into a wall decal. You can get it at their shop for $49, nice. Now the only thing left is for this to be turned into poster format.
I can't get enough of these fonts from designer Jakob Nylund. I've had these up since this morning, and I keep coming back to look at them. I downloaded all of them and I'm just waiting for a project to come up that I can use them in. Get over to Just-My-Type and download them yourself.
The periodic table of typefaces by squidspot is just brilliant. I have seen quite a few of these different periodic tables running about the design blogs lately, but I have a bit of a soft spot for anything typography related. "The Periodic Table of Typefaces is obviously in the style of all the thousands of over-sized Periodic Table of Elements posters hanging in schools and homes around the world. This particular table lists 100 of the most popular, influential and notorious typefaces today.squidspot behance
As with traditional periodic tables, this table presents the subject matter grouped categorically. The Table of Typefaces groups by families and classes of typefaces: san-serif, serif, script, blackletter, glyphic, display, grotesque, realist, didone, garalde, geometric, humanist, slab-serif and mixed.
Each cell of the table lists the typeface and a one or two character "symbol" , the designer, year designed and a ranking of 1 through 100.
Ranking was determined by statistically sorting and combining lists and opinions from the the sites listed below. The final overall ranking was achieved depending on how many lists the particular typeface was presented on and it's ranking on the lists (if the particular source list used a ranking system; some did not, in which case just the typeface's presence on the list boosted it's overall score.) After averaging the typefaces appearances and rankings a composite score was given and the list was sorted on a spreadsheet then finally given an overall score of 1 through 100 based on it's final resting position.
Unfortunately, the typefaces could not be sorted exactly numerically on the table while at the same time keeping them in groups of families and classes. It had to be one or the other. Of course it COULD have been done but I would have had to seriously sacrifice aesthetics of the overall design (i.e. it wouldn't have come out looking AT ALL like a traditional periodic table.) However, upon close inspection, you find that at least the typefaces are ordered within their family/class groupings."

Crazy font work from house42, make sure you click on the pictures and see the images in full view, that is the only way you can really see how crazy this font is. The "do not try to read this text" piece would make a cool poster, although it would be very hard to look at. Check out the house42 portfolio linked at the bottom of the post.

One summer afternoon in August this year digital artist olimax brought 60 subjects together for a session of portraits for a book .
Each subject was given a letter of the alphabet and, after the portrait, was asked to voice their favourite words of that letter to camera.
This curiously compulsive film is a record of that event.

"Love" is a self-initiated project, by London based designer Matthew Croft. The project had one aim to communicate something which is felt yet inexplicable - the ethereal quality of love, in a simple and engaging manner.
Thousands of perforations were placed through a blank piece of A1 graph paper by hand. The word "love" slowly forms at a distance, as light shines through different sized holes.
This construction process was used in order to indicate the personal and labor intensive manner through which typographic forms are produced. An attempt to reflect the degree of dedication, or "love", required to do so.
The form of the word was constructed through the fusion of a number of visual examples that expressed the required quality.

All the different fonts that he went through to get to the final font for "Love," definitely add to the idea of the labor intensive nature of creating a typographic form.

Oli from olimax.com shot me an interesting email today about Alphabet Shoot. What is Alphabet Shoot you ask, well on the 31st of August 2008 about 60 individuals gathered at The Victoria, Mornington Terrace, London to have their portraits taken, based on letters of the alphabet. All this was accomplished over the course of one splendid Sunday afternoon. Seems like a fun little project, you can check out all of the artwork from the book over at olipix.com, enjoy.
Over at type.salsen.com they have a bunch of fun typography jokes, that are just great. I know I know I'm a dork for thinking these design jokes are funny but come on the one above is pretty humorous, and I love that Comic Sans as a whole is a joke unto itself. Get over to type.salsen.com and check them out, and if you have a joke of your own you can leave it there, I'm sure all the other design dorks like me will really appreciate you doing so.
