boston.com has a very cool look at what different cities around the world did to participate in Earth Hour, make sure you click the photos to watch the fade. My wife and I passed the time by playing a little bit of aggravation by candle light. Directions for games are a little hard to read by candle light just so you know.

If you aren't reading garfield minus garfield you probably should be. It is a great look at a classic comic strip minus its main character.
The strip above has to be one of the saddest ones I have ever seen, poor poor Jon.

I'll be in and out over the next couple of days, my posting will be very sporadic at best. But mainly I will be working on editing photos of a photo shoot my wife and I did with my brand new little niece, she was only 12 days old when we were taking photos, so small.
I'll make sure I get up a few of the photos after they are all done, they are turning out really well so far.

With Polaroid instant dead I've been waiting for someone, anyone, to take up the mantle of the instant photography king. Now someone has finally come forward to fill that void. The Diana F+ Instant Back is an attachment that snaps onto the back of the lomography cameras and takes Fujifilm Instax Mini film. Anyone who loved the Polaroid instant film cameras should definitely look into getting this set up. The only real draw back is the price of the Fujifilm Instax Mini film, coming in at $15 for 10 shots, it is over a dollar a shot. But Polaroid film was just as expensive so it may not be that big of a draw back to the Polaroid lovers out there.
The Diana Instant back+ was developed by Lomography Japan. It’s the first, and only, time the Fujifilm Instax Mini format has been used in this innovative way! You’ll be pleased to know, Fujifilm Instax Mini is in constant production and easily available for your Diana Instant Back+ adventures on shop.lomography.com!via

Awesome pin hole camera kit...get it here.
"The Hole-On Ex is a complete do-it-yourself pinhole camera kit. All the parts needed are printed on heavy durable cardstock, die cut and scored for easy assembly. A metal pinhole aperture is included. Step-by-step instructions mean the camera can be ready for shooting in less than two hours using standard 35mm film (not included). Assembly requires only white school glue. Pinhole cameras have no optical lens, only a pinhole that lets light in when the shutter is opened exposing the film. The resulting photos are instantly artful with a softer, almost glowing illumination."

We must be off our trolleys……..!
Brahma and artichoke have joined forces to beat the Credit Crunch. We believe that these tough economic times should not affect your art collection – so you can buy an original Banksy print for only 1p here.
To ensure the process is completely democratic and not just a case of ‘fastest finger first’ you will need to click on the 'register for 1p Banksy' button at the bottom of the page to get your chance to buy the Banksy for 1p.
You will be allocated with a registration number which will be entered into a draw at a secret location in central London on the 27th of March; should your number come up, you get the Banksy for 1p.
You will need to be able to attend the draw, oh, and Brahma are providing the beer! (The draw is our excuse to have a bit of a 'do', making shapes is acceptable, however due to health and safety restrains breakdancing will not allowed anywhere in the building.)
The ‘Trolleys’ print is currently being housed on display just off Carnaby Street at 3 Newburgh Street, W1.
The small print….
You must be over 18 to enter
Only one registration per person will be permitted, those registering twice will only be counted once
You must be available to attend the sale event on 27th March at 8pm at a secret location yet to be announced (in Central London)
You must be prepared to be available for PR exposure after the sale

Absolutely fantastic illustrations from Madrid based illustrator Raul Allen. I just can't stop looking at his portfolio. When you check out the portfolio make sure you scroll down near the bottom of the gallery for the sketchbook links, they are well worth it. A little about Raul below, then another great illustration, then the portfolio links below all of that...enjoy.
The town of Valladolid saw him grow up, come and go. While in Salamanca he graduated from Fine Arts, later on he moved to Boston to study Illustration and Design. He currently lives in Spain. He is been always searching for a way to see the inside and outside of things, to the extreme of sleeping with his eyes open.
His work has been selected and awarded by the Society of Illustrators of NY 49th Annual Exhibition, Illustration West 43, 3x3 Magazine of Contemporary Illustration, The National Drawing Award Gregorio Prieto, Expocomic,Jovenes Creadores2006 Comunidad Madrid , Artis Gallery Drawing Award, Arte Joven of La Junta de Castilla y Leon, and La Diputación de Valladolid. This animal poster from Ink and Wit has to be just about the perfect poster for any little kids room. The 16x20 poster is printed on 100% post consumer recycled paper, with soy inks, packaged in a recycled kraft tube mailer. You can get the poster over at Ink and Wit for $60. Now a bit about Ink and Wit below.
Early experiences of my native New England state of Connecticut influenced my love of weathered materials on the shore in addition to coastal birds walking amidst thin brushes of seaweed and sticks. In addition, the diversity of New York City, being only an hour away from home, opened my eyes to a larger scale of proportions and grandeur. I have a loving appreciation for nature's intricate beauty combined with modern urban style. I see the world as organic and bright.
We letterpress and offset print all of our paper products. We utilize 100% cotton paper made from tree free fibers along with 100% post consumer recycled paper. Ink is soy and water based.
All illustration and design for INK+WIT is created by Tara Hogan.
INK+WIT has participated in Domino Magazine's Holiday Bazaar, featured in eco fashion designer Linda Loudermilk's swag bags, and written about in Yoga Journal.

Although my favorite part of this is the volume slider, I know it is stupid but it is different and it caught my attention.

The periodic table of typefaces by squidspot is just brilliant. I have seen quite a few of these different periodic tables running about the design blogs lately, but I have a bit of a soft spot for anything typography related. Make sure you click on the Larger image link its great, and as always where the heck is Comic Sans. A bit about the project below and the portfolio links below that.
"The Periodic Table of Typefaces is obviously in the style of all the thousands of over-sized Periodic Table of Elements posters hanging in schools and homes around the world. This particular table lists 100 of the most popular, influential and notorious typefaces today.squidspot behance
As with traditional periodic tables, this table presents the subject matter grouped categorically. The Table of Typefaces groups by families and classes of typefaces: san-serif, serif, script, blackletter, glyphic, display, grotesque, realist, didone, garalde, geometric, humanist, slab-serif and mixed.
Each cell of the table lists the typeface and a one or two character "symbol" , the designer, year designed and a ranking of 1 through 100.
Ranking was determined by statistically sorting and combining lists and opinions from the the sites listed below. The final overall ranking was achieved depending on how many lists the particular typeface was presented on and it's ranking on the lists (if the particular source list used a ranking system; some did not, in which case just the typeface's presence on the list boosted it's overall score.) After averaging the typefaces appearances and rankings a composite score was given and the list was sorted on a spreadsheet then finally given an overall score of 1 through 100 based on it's final resting position.
Unfortunately, the typefaces could not be sorted exactly numerically on the table while at the same time keeping them in groups of families and classes. It had to be one or the other. Of course it COULD have been done but I would have had to seriously sacrifice aesthetics of the overall design (i.e. it wouldn't have come out looking AT ALL like a traditional periodic table.) However, upon close inspection, you find that at least the typefaces are ordered within their family/class groupings."

Great bit of sustainable design and a winner of a green dot award, for excellence in green products. 60BAGs are a great, I would love to see these at my local grocery store.
60BAGs are the perfect natural answer to the environment's needs. They are biodegradable carrier bags made out of flax-viscose non-woven fabric. Its materials was scientifically developed and manufactured in Poland. The flax-viscose fabric is produced with flax fiber industrial waste, which means it doesn't exploit any natural resources and requires minimal energy during its production. This highly innovative technology enable the bags to naturally decompose approximately 60 days after being discarded, which means they don't require expensive recycling or disposal in landfills.

Great set of bags from the Montreal based company m0851. The Fedoras bags are a great combination of wool and leather. To bad these bags were only available during this past holiday season.
"It is with pride and joy that m0851 presents our limited edition collection of bags: the FEDORAS. Emanating a sense of practicality and durability cleverly combined with attention to detail and beauty, the fedoras embody the perfect recipe for a multi-purpose, multi functional-bag. The contrasts of the saddle leather on the fedora wool, accented by nickel clasps, are reminiscent of childhood memories. The fedoras will be available only during this holiday season, so take a look and you might find just what you were looking for."*update: Sorry I didn't look closely enough at the website, the Fedoras bags are still available, in limited quantities and at 40% off. The two that are still available are "Flight" and "Safari."
